Faser – Schillernd EP

Problem

German indie band FASER needed a logo and EP cover for their “Schillernd” EP, released in December 2024. The EP explores the contrasting themes of self-discovery within the pressures of modern meritocracy – a generation striving for individuality while feeling overwhelmed. The design needed to visually represent this complex emotional landscape.

Approach

I collaborated closely with the band to translate their lyrical themes into a compelling visual identity. The logo evolved from a representation of the band’s thoughtful nature into a continuous flow, reflecting the meaning of german word “FASER”, translating to fiber. The EP cover visualized lyrics through a pictorial compilation, focusing on a figure with iridescent hair floating in the sea. Initial 2D explorations were transitioned to 3D rendering to better capture the nuances of iridescence.

Solution

The final EP cover presents a contrasting yet serene image – a blend of darkness and floating hedonistic/self-care elements. The logo is a continuous, flowing form that embodies the band’s thoughtful nature. I utilized Figma for prototyping and iteration, ensuring accessibility through careful color contrast and font choices.

Learnings

This project reinforced the importance of aligning visual design with the core values and target audience of a musical artist. The iterative process of 2D to 3D rendering significantly improved the realism and emotional impact of the iridescent hair.
