A Corporate Design for a Disruptive Healthcare Startup

Branding Print

docport

Abstract

This project developed a comprehensive corporate design system for docport, a medical startup aiming to revolutionize the german general practitioner market through the easy implementation of state-of-the-art technology. The design includes a distinctive logo, brand mark, and a concise branding guideline encompassing color palettes and typography, all designed to project a modern, trustworthy, and disruptive brand identity.

Problem statement

docport, founded in Düsseldorf by three ambitious individuals, seeks to disrupt the general practitioner market by integrating advanced technology into doctors’ offices. The challenge was to create a brand identity that communicates innovation, reliability, and ease of use, while also being versatile enough for application across diverse media platforms. The founders requested a logo and brand guideline to establish a strong and easily recognizable visual presence.

Approach

The design process began with a deep dive into docport’s mission, values, and target audience by interviews of the staff. docport wants to revolutionize the general practitioner market by providing easy-to-implement, state-of-the-art technology solutions for doctors’ offices, targeting busy medical professionals seeking to modernize their practices and improve patient care.

The core concept for the logo and brand mark revolves around a simplified letter “DP” ligature that visually represents a broken-up pill. This metaphor symbolizes the disruptive nature of the startup and its commitment to modernizing healthcare. The design prioritizes minimalism and clarity, ensuring the logo is easily recognizable and scalable across various applications, from smartphones and tablets to physical products. A concise start-up suitable branding guideline was developed to ensure consistent visual communication across touchpoint like doctor’s offices, print, social media, merch and signage.

Solution

The final corporate design system comprises the following elements:

Logo

A stylized “DP” formed by fragmented shapes, representing a broken pill and symbolizing disruption. The logo is designed to be adaptable and scalable, maintaining legibility across different sizes and media.

Color Palette

A color palette consists of #004987 Dark Cerulean , secondary color #457B9D Jelly Bean, tertiary color #A8D9DD Iceberg, a red accent color #E73845 Ruby Red and some complementary colors. The primary color Dark Cerulean conveys reliability, professionalism, and credibility, as blue dominates 85% of healthcare logos. Jelly Bean and Iceberg calmingly compliment for a calming, tranquil world. The accent conveys emergency and action as contrast.

Typography

A combination of Comfortaa by Johan Akerlund for the logotype and the readable Rubik Font by the graphic design studio Hubert & Fischer for headings and copy. Comfortaa’s warm, rounded geometric style in the logo conveys approachable care and modern trust, while Rubik’s clean, highly legible sans-serif ensures professional readability for headings and copy. This duo creates visual harmony – playful branding meets reliable text – ideal for a welcoming and modern medical startup.

Impact

The new corporate design provides docport with a strong and memorable visual identity that effectively communicates its mission and values. The minimalist logo and brand guideline ensure consistency across all platforms, building brand recognition and trust with potential customers and partners. The design’s focus on modernity and innovation positions docport as a forward-thinking leader in the healthcare market.
