Faser – Schillernd
Release of a german Indie Band
Faser – Schillernd
Abstract
The German indie band FASER needed a logo and a cover for their EP “Schillernd.” The EP explores the contrasting themes of self–discovery within the context of modern meritocracy—a generation that strives for individuality but simultaneously feels overwhelmed. The design was intended to visually reflect this complex emotional landscape.
Process
I worked closely with the band to translate their lyrical themes into a compelling visual identity. The logo evolved from a representation of the band’s contemplative nature into a continuous, flowing form that reflects the meaning of the German word “FASER” (fiber). The EP cover visualized the lyrics through a pictorial composition, focusing on a figure with iridescent hair floating in the sea. Initially, 2D sketches were created, which were then converted into 3D renderings to better capture the nuances of the iridescent effects.
Solution
The final EP cover features a high-contrast yet soothing image—a blend of darkness and ethereal, hedonistic/self-care elements. The logo is a continuous, flowing form that embodies the band’s contemplative nature. I used Figma for prototyping and iterative improvements, paying close attention to good color contrast and careful font selection to ensure accessibility.
Impact
Authentic Artistic Expression
According to the band, the design process played a key role in bringing their artistic vision to life.
Increased Sales
Sales of merchandise (T-shirts, CDs, prints) rose by approximately 50% during the band’s EP tour compared to their previous release.
Insights
This project has once again underscored the importance of aligning visual design with a musician’s core values and target audience. The iterative process from 2D to 3D rendering enhanced the realism and emotional impact.
